COVID 19 Vaccines

The rollout of the Covid 19 Vaccine has been much faster than the rollout of any other vaccine in history. Within less than a year, several successful vaccines have already been announced and have been approved for use in many countries.

The most successful vaccines in the Western world so far are:

  • AstraZeneca

  • Pfizer/BioNTech

  • Moderna

W.H.O has set up an organisation called COVAX, which is a global vaccine scheme, largely funded by donors, trying to get enough vaccines for people in poor countries.

America’s New President

Since the 20th of  January 2021 America has a new president. Joe Biden is the 46th president of the USA. He has a hard time ahead of him.

He is leading a country in which a huge rift has been formed between the people. Many people now have a huge distrust of the government because of delusional conspiracy theories, and Trump's incitement, which led to the attack on the Capitol building.

Five people were killed by the mob.

Myanmar Coup

On February 1st the Myanmar army started a coup to overthrow the democratically chosen government.

Myanmar was ruled by the military from 1962 to 2011. It has been a partial democracy since 2015.

The military started the coup to reclaim power after losing the election in November 2020. They falsely claimed it was because of fraud in the election.

The leader of the National League of Democracy, Ms Suu Kyi has been placed under house arrest. She is popular in her homeland, however, she tarnished her reputation abroad after turning a blind eye on the Rohingya genocide in 2017.

She even defended the generals accused of the genocide in the International Court of Justice.
